Description and Race Plans
Cornish Castle is a very interesting recruit to the jumping ranks.  A very progressive dual winner on the flat over a mile in 2009, he then refused to go into the stalls on two occasions.  He has a BHB rating of 75 on the flat, and was then switched to hurdling.  After only two attempts over sticks he was sent to the Doncaster sales, where we picked him up in October 2009.  He has joined the dual purpose yard of Joss Saville in Middleham.

He is a good size, and certainly has the scope to improve on his two runs over hurdles.  He was a sketchy jumper on his first run and fell when holding a prominent position. He subsequently gave the hurdles too much respect on his second run and was staying on from the back of the field late in the race.

Joss Saville has put a good deal of jumps schooling into him since he joined him, and we are extremely hopeful that this gelding will emerge a much better prospect than he has shown to date.  He certainly has the ability, its simply a matter of confidence.  He is only a four-year-old at the moment, so potentially has a very long jumps career ahead of him.

Joss describes Cornish Castle as "A compact, big, strong gelding but he's very well made.  I've been schooling him myself, and he has grown in confidence with every day on the gallops at Middleham."

He continued "He's only a baby really - and I'll be looking to send him juvenile hurdling in the next few months and then down the handicap route.  However, I've already had a couple of pro jockeys also school him at home.  Both have liked him a lot and I believe he just needs to have a strong pair of hands on him and a jockey which can give the gelding plenty of confidence during his races and he'll be a decent type for us."

He will race predominantly in the North at the national hunt tracks, and as he acts on firm ground as well as good, we will probably be keeping him in training for at least part of the summer jumps campaign in 2010.  So, with short breaks, he should be racing throughout 2011.

This is an opportunity to become involved in an interesting, and potentially useful gelding.  He's not without his frustrations, but if Joss Saville can find the key to him he already had proven ability, and may be a real force over hurdles in the North and Midlands.

This gelding is currently being schooled and is available to view at Joss Saville's yard at Coverham, near Middleham in North Yorkshire by appointment.
How to book a share or find out more

We find that most shareholders will wish to speak to us regarding the racehorse before they join the syndicate.  We would urge potential shareholders to call us and and speak to one of our syndicate managers.  You will learn more about the horse and understand exactly what to expect from your ownership.

Its important you know exactly who you are dealing with, what we will deliver, and what the expectations are for the horse, rather than you be disappointed at any stage.  The key to a successful syndicate is a good horse and great communication with the shareholders, and we strive to provide both.

Either call 0845 8381532 for an informal chat, or contact us via email.  If you want to proceed we will send you a Syndicate Agreement which lays out your full entitlements in detail.  You simply need to sign the agreement, pay the up-front share cost and organise the monthly training payments to become part of the syndicate.
